Video of Windows 7 Black Screen of Death

Here’s a video to accompany my previous blog post Windows 7 has definite backlight problems (”Black Screen of Death”).  As mentioned before, I cannot reproduce this in Arch Linux.  The problem began after a recent “Patch Tuesday”.

Microsoft has been denying any problems like this in the media.  Comment if you have had similar experience on Nvidia hardware or Intel graphics.

  1. Dude,

Nice one. I have a t60p that I recently upgraded to Windows 7 64-bit. Also added a 128GB Samsung SSD. Performance is great, but I did see this problem early on (november). It has not occured in recent memory, but I did have problems putting the computer to sleep earlier this week. The “moon” sleep light was on, but the CPU fan contnued to run and the CPU was hot. Strange…

I came across your post when searching for “windows 7″ “black screen of death” which I am experiencing a different version of on my Lenovo D10 workstation. Computer wakes from sleep, mouse pointer movement is “chunky”, logging in or clicking “switch user” results in the computer hanging.

I have an open cal right now with M$ who asked me to run MSDT and then turn off all non-MS services. Same problem occured upon next wake-from-sleep. They have now asked that I reboot into safe mode and disblae suff like the network driver, display driver, etc… What good will that do except to make my computer absolutely useless!

    Chris

  2. Chris,

I’ve been seeing the wake up problem a lot now too.

I’m chuckling to myself as I find it is really aggravating not being able to take part in the debugging process. What some may consider inferior about open source software, I find much more compelling.
